Syria's hijab concerns
At the moment, Syria's shifting security environment places Syrian society in a state of flux - a concern for the women as much as the men.
The lingering remnants of jihadist culture in Syria pose a significant challenge. One pressing question is whether the interim leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, and the newly formed coalition government will take decisive action to eliminate public jihadist propaganda, such as hijab mandates.
Moreover, the potential consequences for local women are particularly concerning, as the combination of propaganda and social pressures could lead to the implementation of these informal restrictions as law. Ultimately, this could have a profound impact on Syrian culture, potentially redirecting the security landscape in a fragmented direction.
